About This Spot

Stepping into Red Chilli Ashbourne is like finding a quietly welcoming corner where familiar Indian flavours unfold with thoughtful care. Tucked in a modest stretch of Dig Street, the restaurant carries the low hum of local chatter and the gentle rhythm of a kitchen crafting meals that invite you to linger. There’s a steady, easygoing pace here—enough buzz to feel alive but with the comfort of a place that welcomes both small groups and quiet dinners alike.

The atmosphere leans toward warm and unpretentious, with attentive staff who bring a sincere friendliness to the table, helping to settle in newcomers and habitual diners with the same ease. The thoughtful touches—from neatly arranged table settings to the subtle layering of fresh spices in each dish—suggest a kitchen mindful of its guests’ experience, not just their appetite.

Food at Red Chilli Ashbourne is not about flash or elaborate presentation, but rather about the harmony of familiar favourites done with a steady hand—the gentle char of tandoori chicken, the satisfying warmth of freshly baked chapati, or the comforting bowl of richly spiced curry. These are dishes that invite conversation and connection, their flavours unfolding gradually like a quiet story shared among friends.

While the restaurant embraces a straightforward offering, the option to bring your own bottle adds a personal touch that suits relaxed nights out or simply sharing a meal your way. Diners tend to find themselves lingering longer than planned, drawn by the steady pulse of good food, genuine hospitality, and a space that feels quietly rooted in its town.

Was staying locally and went on a Monday night. Food was excellent; Poppadoms, Tardka deal, Mix Veg Bujia, Naans, Tandoori Roti and Mixed kebab starter. With bonus of take your own alcohol. It's a shame we live in Leicester as would return here often. In Leicester the food (no matter where we have been) contains too much masala and too much salt. I am Punjabi and enjoy my spice, but too often the restaurant food goes through me, as a result we only eat out if invited out. Red Chilli was flavourful, spiced just under what I normally have (no bad thing), good portions with large naan and roti. The masala did not linger in me for days after. For a random Monday night, there were a few people eating in, with a busy takeaway.

Read a lot of varying reviews, but did not come out disappointed.. Really really tasty.. My chicken tikka karahi and chapati break were amazing. My partners tikka masala was also really good. We highly recommend.

Surprisingly decent! The food was freshly prepared and pleasantly better than expected for a random spot in Ashbourne. That said, all the mains were missing salt—we had to season them ourselves. Also, while they advertise serving alcohol, it’s limited to bottled beer and wine (no spirits or draft options). Still, a good experience overall.

We stopped by here on our way home from a visit and were really glad we did. Ahmed looked after us and he was fantastic – very attentive, friendly, and welcoming. He had such a happy, positive energy that made us feel comfortable straight away. We were unfortunately very tired from travelling, otherwise we’d have loved to have a proper chat with him! The restaurant itself was tidy, beautifully set out, and had a really nice atmosphere. The food was delicious, full of flavour, and came at very good prices for the quality. It’s clear a lot of care goes into both the service and the dishes. A great place to stop for a meal – highly recommend :)

We had an absolutely delicious meal here last night. Fresh flavours and nicely presented. Ahmed attended to us. He was so professional and friendly, he made us feel very welcome. Great service all round. Luckily we found this stylish restaurant by chance, despite the road/pavement closures. We would definitely recommend this restaurant, it's a real treat! Unfortunately we are not local, but when we are next in the area, we will be back for another treat. Thanks again Red Chilli 5
